🌿 Discover Góis on Foot

A lovely walk from Casa Carvalhal into the heart of Góis, following the river, through the old town and past beautiful river beaches with inviting terraces.

This walk is a wonderful way to discover Góis at your own pace. Along the way, you’ll come across historic places, the river, old bridges, a traditional watermill and several beautiful viewpoints.

🚶 Starting from Casa Carvalhal

From Casa Carvalhal, walk down the road and keep left. Follow the road all the way to the end, where you’ll reach a T-junction.

Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing. On the other side, walk down the steps and cross the bridge over the river.

You are now in the park. Turn right and follow the path along the river.

🌳 From here, the fun begins: water, nature and the peaceful atmosphere of Góis.

🏘️ The Old Town of Góis

Continue following the river until you reach the old town of Góis.

At the junction, take the road slightly to the left. You’ll arrive at a pleasant square with a fountain.

Continue straight ahead, passing between the Town Hall and the Tourist Information Office.

A little further on, you’ll reach a square with a church. At the back left of the square, you’ll find an old fountain, with steps leading down.

On the square, turn right, towards the church and the cemetery.

⛪ Take a Look at the Cemetery

The cemetery of Góis is definitely worth a visit. Portuguese cemeteries are often quite different from those in Belgium or the Netherlands and offer an interesting glimpse into Portuguese culture and traditions.

Opposite the church, you’ll also have a beautiful view over Góis. Look carefully: from here you can see all the way to the football pitch, which is located directly opposite Casa Carvalhal.

💦 Along the River to the River Beach

Walk back a short distance and turn left.

You’ll arrive at the river beach of Góis. It’s a lovely place to take a break, with a large and inviting terrace right beside the water. ☕🍹

Then cross the river via the wooden footbridge.

Continue following the river along the wooden walkway. Enjoy the gently flowing water, the rocks and the lush green surroundings.

A little further on, you’ll reach a second river beach, again with a pleasant terrace.

🌊 Tip: On hot days, this is a wonderful place to cool your feet in the crystal-clear river water.

⚙️ The Old Watermill

Walk uphill behind the building housing the old watermill. Follow the path towards the road and climb the steps until you reach the road above.

Then continue back towards the centre of Góis.

At the old bridge, you’ll see a small chapel.

Turn left and walk uphill, passing alongside the chapel.

🌄 The Best View over Góis

You’ll reach a beautiful viewpoint overlooking Góis and the surrounding hills.

Take a moment here to enjoy the view. It is one of the loveliest places to see Góis from above.

Continue walking around the park. You’ll pass another chapel and a fountain.

You can then walk back down using the steps.

Once you reach the road, turn right and continue downhill.

At the end of the road, turn right, back towards the centre of Góis.

🥾 Back to Casa Carvalhal

From the centre, you can take a quiet route back:

Left → first street on the right → first street on the left → continue straight and walk up the steps.

Continue uphill. You’ll pass the football pitch.

And you’re almost home…

🏡 Casa Carvalhal is directly opposite the football pitch.
